Several of my family members have been interested in what I've been learning on this food journey. One of them asked me to blog about it.
I am not a reactionary. I like documented information, not heresy. When I look up my food questions, I try to find reputable sources and multiple sources. I will try to provide links to where I got the information when possible. Unless it's just me soap boxing and then, well, you know the source. :)
I"m not a conspiracy theorist. I believe people are essentially good, though sometimes self serving. The self serving part is where I start to sound like a conspiracy theorist (which I've already said I'm not). As I've looked at our food sources and the government agencies regulating them I have seen lots and lots and lots (did I mention LOTS) of self serving behavior. Much of what our government bases policy on regarding particular drugs, food ingredients, or farming practices is research funded by the industry themselves. It's tough to have independent testing - who will pay for it? But it's also tough to be unbiased when millions, if not billions are at stake. We all know that statistics are easy to manipulate, especially if all the data isn't reported. I think that happens all too often.
In addition, our county seems to have adopted a 'safe until proven otherwise' mentality. That scares me.
Many thanks to Google, the wise and all-knowing source. I'm enjoying learning, feel free to stay and read or shake your head and click to the next blog.
